The Apache Junction Prospectors flaunted their pink uniforms in a Senior Night showdown versus the Tempe Buffaloes on April 20.
The Prospectors were celebrating Jacob Glazener, Andrew Knox, Alric Branscom and Dominic Elizondo as this was their final game playing at their home stadium.
Pitching on both sides dominated. The Prospectors were able to jump to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off an RBI fielder’s choice by Glazener and a following throwing error that scored sophomore Isaiah Carranza. The Prospectors were shut down after the first inning. Tempe was able to notch their one and only run in the top of the second, as a wild pitch scored senior Jaden Holloway.
In the top of the seventh inning, Glazener found himself in the most trouble he had faced all game. After an error put a Buffalo runner on first and a stolen base put them in scoring position, Glazener faced Julian Rivera with two outs. After a great battle at the plate, Glazener struck out Rivera and celebrated with a sheathed-sword motion as he got to go home happy with his fifth win of the year.
Entering the game, Glazener had a 0.99 ERA, which was 15th in the state. After his performance against the Buffaloes, Glazener dropped his ERA to 0.88, which ranks fifth in the state. Glazener also has the third most strikeouts in the state with 85.
