The progress of Willow Canyon girls wrestling will not necessarily be on display during the state girls meet Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix.
The Wildcats placed seventh in the state in 2021, but last year any wrestler who wanted to compete in the state meet could.
This year the AIA introduced a similar format to boys wrestling where the sectional meet acts as a state qualifier. However, with only one division for all girls wrestling in the state, that leads to eight sections in the state and only the top two in each weigh class at sectionals qualifying for state.
