Gilbert's transportation master plan runs into trouble at council level

Three council members seek more automobile-centric document

Gilbert is preparing a transportation master plan to guide future planning, but some council members have criticized it primarily for not concentrating enough on automobiles.

The plan, meant to update a 2014 version, is scheduled to go before council Aug. 23 for a vote, but already has been postponed once for revisions, and the criticism of it continued at an Aug. 9 study session.

Vice Mayor Aimee Yentes, as she had at a May 17 study session, led the charge, calling it woefully insufficient on data and sourcing and the changes made since May “surface level” rather than substantive.
