Gilbert reports progress in curbing youth violence, highlights need for more initiatives

The Gilbert Police Department's initiatives aimed at curbing youth violence and fostering stronger community ties are having early success but much work is needed, officials told Gilbert Town Council.

In a detailed presentation to council on April 22, Youth Community Engagement Officer Emily King and Police Chief Michael Soelberg outlined the growing successes but cautioned about the additional work needed.

“This new role has opened up my eyes in understanding the importance of building lasting relationships and partnerships within our community,” said King, who was hired for the position six months ago. “I cannot handle these issues on my own. Gilbert PD cannot handle these issues on their own.”
