East Valley city pilots private security patrols in parking garages after youth attacks

The town of Gilbert will contract with private security for its free Heritage District parking garages for the next six months.

The security will operate 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday-Saturday and is meant to curb incidents of teen loitering and substance abuse in the garages, which have been the site of a well-publicized assault in December 2022 and an accidental death by falling in May.

Gilbert Town Council approved the change to a contract with Capital Guard & Patrol on a 7-0 vote.
