Ford F-250 driver identified in Gilbert truck theft, fatal Mesa crash

8-year-old girl was one of three killed

Posted

The driver of the stolen truck in Monday’s fatal crash in Mesa has been identified as 29-year-old Damarya Zyberi.

Three people, including an 8-year-old girl, died Monday in the collision at Val Vista Drive and Southern Avenue, Mesa police said.

A Ford F-250 was stolen in Gilbert and was northbound on Val Vista Drive when it drove left of center and collided head-on about 7:50 a.m. Feb. 3 with a Nissan Armada, which had been southbound in the median lane on Val Vista, according to a Mesa Police Department release.

A third vehicle was also involved. It was southbound on Val Vista behind the Nissan Armada.

Zyberi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troy Garlock, the 42-year-old driver of the Nissan Armada, also died at the scene. In the backseat were children, 8 and 6 years old.

They were both taken to a hospital. The 8-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 6-year-old is being treated for injuries, police said.

The driver of the third vehicle received minor injuries.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision, police said.
