Gilbert Town Council to revisit Target rezoning, adopt preliminary budget

The Gilbert Town Council is expected to take up two closely watched issues during its May 19 regular meeting: a final decision on a rezoning request tied to a proposed Target store at Higley and Ocotillo roads and adoption of the town’s preliminary fiscal year 2026-27 budget.

The Target-related zoning case has drawn months of public attention and neighborhood debate, with previous council hearings ending in continuances rather than a final vote.

The proposal would amend the Marbella Vineyards Planned Area Development overlay to rezone about 16.14 acres from Shopping Center to General Commercial. The zoning change would allow development of a commercial center anchored by a roughly 128,660-square-foot Target store.
