Gilbert Town Council mulls first step toward utility increases

Gilbert Town Council will vote to set in motion utility-rate increases at its Nov. 28 meeting. The question is by how much?

Council’s agenda at its 6:30 p.m. meeting includes voting for a notice to increase water and solid waste and recycling fees after a rate study concluded those enterprise funds would quickly fall below their minimum fund balances without action. The meeting is at Gilbert Town Hall, 50 E. Civic Center Drive, Gilbert.

Dwindling water supplies at the Colorado River, staggering increases in construction costs as well as for things like raw water, treatment chemicals and landfill fees are forcing the town to make the increases.
