Gilbert resident's ethics complaint dismissed under new policy

Maureen Hoppe has refiled with corrections in hopes council will allow it

A Gilbert resident’s new ethics complaints against a council member have been dismissed on a technicality.

But Maureen Hoppe said all she ever wanted was an apology and a meeting with Councilmember Jim Torgeson and the town’s new ethics policy is frustrating her attempts to meet with her elected representative.

“All I have been trying to do is meet with Torgeson and ask him to apologize for referring to me as a ‘pig’ during the September town council meeting,” Hoppe wrote in an email to the Gilbert Independent. “I have re-sent both of my complaints with minor amendments as permitted by Arizona state law. I am optimistic that the town will support my efforts to meet with my elected representative."
