Gilbert residents call for mayor's resignation over teen violence

Council considers next steps in creating action plan

Residents concerned about teen violence turned up the heat on Mayor Brigette Peterson at the Gilbert Town Council meeting March 5, asking her to resign.

The residents accused Peterson of a lack of caring about what was happening in the community, citing her lack of attendance at events organized to commemorate the death of San Tan Valley teen Preston Lord and to stand up against the violence.  Seven of the 14 residents who spoke called for a change of leadership.

“I don't know why you don't seem to care because if you did at this point, you would resign and we would accept it,” resident Kristine Brennan said.
