The town of Gilbert's tourism arm, Discover Gilbert, is offering 10 ideas for residents to beat the heat or make memories with family and friends this summer.
1. Water Tower Plaza’s new splash pad 45 W. Page Ave., Gilbert
Water Tower Plaza has a new shaded, water-efficient splash pad for little ones to cool off while grown-ups enjoy the nearby shaded seating and views of the Heritage District.
2. H2O Fest – June 5th Freestone Park – 1045 E. Juniper Ave., Gilbert
H2O Fest features music, water slides, treats and a giant slip and slide for those ages 4 and up. It is a one-night-only event! Purchase tickets.
3. Grab a scoop from Cream of the Crop Barnone – 3000 E. Ray Road, Gilbert
Tucked inside Barnone at Agritopia, local Cream of the Crop serves small-batch, homemade flavors using seasonal ingredients.
4. Public Swim at Gilbert Pools
Greenfield Pool- 35 S. Greenfield Road, Gilbert;
Perry Pool- 1775 E. Queen Creek Road, Gilbert;
Williams Field Pool- 1900 S. Higley Road, Gilbert;
Mesquite Aquatic Center- 1900 S. Higley Road, Gilbert.Most locations offer open swim hours, diving boards, slides and shaded areas.
5. Public skate at AZ Ice Gilbert 2305 E. Knox Road, Gilbert
Skate rentals are available, and all ages and skill levels are welcome. Save the date for the Gilbert Police Department’s Skate with a Cop on Aug. 23.
6. Explore the Riparian Preserve at sunset 2757 E. Guadalupe Road, Gilbert
Visitors can spot birds, bunnies and maybe even a turtle or two along the shaded trails.
7. Try indoor rock climbing Freestone Recreation Center – 1141 E. Guadalupe Road, Gilbert
Freestone Recreation Center offers indoor rock climbing, fitness classes and youth activities.
8. Chill with a book Southeast Regional Library- 75 N. Greenfield Road, Gilbert
Visitors can escape the sun with a good book, a cozy reading nook or a community program. The kids' section here is top-notch.
9. Topgolf Gilbert TopGolf - 1689 S. Santan Village Parkway, Gilbert
Topgolf’s climate-controlled bays are ideal for golf newbies and pros alike. Food, drinks and games make it a spot for groups and families.
10. Visit the Gilbert Historical Museum HD South- 10 S. Gilbert Road, Gilbert
Visitors can learn about Gilbert’s roots in the comfort of air-conditioning. HD South offers hands-on exhibits, local history and scavenger hunts for kids — all in a preserved historic building.
