When internet service provider Wyyerd announced in March that it was rolling out installation of fiber optic cable for service in Gilbert, it put a public face on one of the town’s priority projects.
Fiber installation is a central part of Gilbert’s “City of the Future” initiative that aims to break the typical life cycle of a city and find a way to maintain prosperity as the population and infrastructure age.
Fiber optic cable’s role is two-fold: making fast, reliable internet at large bandwidths available to residents and businesses; and capitalizing on fiber’s capabilities to improve town functions, like traffic control.
