Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board President Sheila Rogers Uggetti, whose long career with the district culminated in her latest position, died Sunday. She was 75.
Uggetti, a native of Douglas, spent more than 52 years in public education, including her service on the board. She worked as a teacher, administrator, principal and district superintendent with 40 of those years in Gilbert Public Schools.
“To say she was a champion for students, educators and families would be an understatement,” Superintendent Shane McCord said in an email sent to GPS families and employees. “Her impact to our community was tremendous, and her ability to listen and care for people was unmatched.”
