Gilbert ponders bicycle helmet law

Daniel and Sarah Strazza came close to losing their 7-year-old daughter Alexandria on Jan. 15 when an uninsured and distracted driver ran a red light at a trail crossing and hit Alexandria on her bicycle.

“It was a harrowing experience that could have easily ended in tragedy, but thanks to her wearing her bike helmet, her life was spared,” Sarah Strazza told Gilbert Town Council at its Feb. 20 meeting.

To spare others the pain of losing a child, the Strazzas have put forth a proposal for Gilbert to implement a bicycle helmet law for juveniles as 22 states and many municipalities have.
