Gilbert police arrest man wanted on California probation warrant

Gilbert police arrested a 35-year-old man Thursday after authorities said they were able to modify a California probation violation warrant to allow his extradition from Arizona.

Police identified the man as Gibran Alvarez, who was booked into Maricopa County jail and was being held without bond Thursday night.

The case began Aug. 18 when Gilbert police received a report of a suspicious man riding an electric bicycle near several schools, through neighborhoods and in areas where juveniles gather after school, according to the department.
