Gilbert neighborhood struggles with cattle roaming streets, greenbelt

Residents of the Adora Trails neighborhood in south Gilbert are grappling with an unexpected and ongoing problem — roaming cattle that have invaded their community, damaging property, creating safety hazards and leaving behind unsanitary conditions.

Despite efforts from town officials and law enforcement, the issue remains unresolved because of complex legal and jurisdictional challenges.

The issue was the subject of a Gilbert Town Council study session Jan. 28, and in the regular meeting that followed, it dominated the “Communications from Citizens” public-comment period, which lasted nearly two hours as resident after resident told harrowing tales of their encounters with the vagabond steers.
