Gilbert mayor decries loss of revenue from rental tax ban

Town stands to lose $7.6 million, possibly affecting services

Residents living in rental homes and apartments could get some relief from high monthly costs, but Gilbert will take a $7.6 million hit to its budget with the new state rental tax ban, officials said.

Mayor Brigette Peterson said that loss could affect town services upon which residents depend.

“Without any offset options for this lost revenue, there will be difficult discussions and decisions coming related to the services Gilbert provides,” Peterson said in a statement emailed to the Gilbert Independent.
