Gilbert evaluates development services fees, considers increases

The town of Gilbert is moving forward with a plan to update its development service fees, which have remained largely unchanged for more than a decade.

Development Services Director Kyle Mieras and his team presented a detailed evaluation of the town’s fee structure to council during the town’s recent financial retreat and proposed adjustments to better align with costs and neighboring communities.

According to budget analyst Joseph Hewitt, the town’s building valuation table, which plays a key role in determining fees, has not been updated since 1999. While an attempt to revise the fees was made in 2019, the effort was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
