Gilbert council votes for pay raises adjusted for price changes

After a contentious discussion, Gilbert Town Council voted itself a pay increase equal to the consumer price index increase over the past 15 years — when council member salaries were set to their current level.

The raise, effective at the start of the next term in January, equates to about 2.79% per year since the last raises — 2009 for council and 2017 for mayor. Council members’ pay will go from $21,012 to $31,749 annually, a 51.1% increase. That motion passed on a 5-2 vote with Mayor Brigette Peterson and Councilmember Bobbi Buchli dissenting.

Mayoral pay will go from $43,631 to $57,149, a 30.98% increase. That motion passed on a 5-1 vote with Peterson dissenting and Vice Mayor Scott Anderson, the mayor-elect, abstaining.
