Gilbert council rejects apartment rezoning, keeps commercial land

Gilbert Town Council rejected a request for a minor general plan amendment on nearly 15 acres of land at Gabriella Pointe from regional commercial to allow high-density multifamily development.

The denial also included a rezoning request, effectively halting plans for Modera Gabriella Pointe as a 329-unit apartment complex.

The proposed site, located south of the southeast corner of Higley and Warner roads, sits within the town’s Gateway Character Area. Town planning staff strongly opposed the proposal, citing concerns about the long-established vision for the area, which prioritizes office, light industrial and commercial uses.
