The Gilbert Town Council got a first look on a series of recommendations for improving communications with the community May 23 after the town’s leadership concluded a two-day strategic retreat.
But the 24 recommendations from the council subcommittee on communications, made over five categories, did not meet universal approval. Regardless, no action could be taken upon them, and they could receive further reshaping before coming back to council.
One recommendation about council presence at neighborhood meetings even brought back political tensions between Mayor Brigette Peterson and council members Jim Torgeson and Chuck Bongiovanni, both of whom have been critics of the mayor. The trio clashed about council’s role in approving multifamily housing projects.
