Gilbert chief warns public about 'doxxing' in teen violence cases

Gilbert Police Chief Michael Soelberg cautioned the public Feb. 22 at his weekly news conference about the “doxxing” of residents believed to have been involved with incidents of teen violence.

Soelberg said Gilbert Police have investigated eight incidents of doxxing — publishing identifying information about an individual on the internet with the intent to harass the individual — and made two arrests.

“Let me be clear that we want justice for each and every victim in Gilbert,” Soelberg said. “We know the community wants justice as well, but we can't have vigilante justice where citizens are publishing personal information that can and has enabled others to verbally harass innocent individuals, and we can't pick and choose which cases we investigate. We will investigate all crimes in Gilbert.”
