Gilbert and Chandler are leading Arizona’s co-working surge, according to a newly release study.

CoworkingCafe identified the top 20 fastest-growing U.S. cities by analyzing workforce shifts from 2020 to 2023, focusing on employment growth, working-age population trends, migration inflows and the rise of remote work, a news release states.

Then, the study assessed how co-working markets evolved in these cities in the years that followed (2023 to 2025).

Among the national standouts, Gilbert ranked seventh and Chandler as fastest-growing co-working talent pools in the U.S.

Gilbert’s fraction of telecommuters nearly doubled — from 12% in 2020 to 23.6% in 2023 — and more than doubled in Chandler, from 11% in 2020 to nearly 23% in 2023.

CoworkingCafe states its methodology included the top expansions of working population: Between 2020 and 2023, Gilbert recorded the nation’s second-highest increase — nine full percent — in working-age population, ages 20–64, with Chandler not far behind with the third-highest increase, at 8%.

In employment growth, Gilbert records the 15th-highest employment rate growth nationwide, from 68.5% in 2020 to 69.6% in 2023, while Chandler’s remained stable at about 69%.

In remote work, Gilbert’s co-working footprint recorded the biggest two-year development wave among cities in the study by nearly tripling, or growing by more than 160% with eight new spaces since 2023.

Chandler’s doubled, adding nine new flexible offices in just two years, the release states.

Nationwide, co-working, or remote work, supply rose 23% as remote work and post-pandemic economic stability expanded talent pools, the release states.

Growth was clustered in Phoenix suburbs, East Coast hubs and some mature markets, while other prominent co-working hotspots like Miami and D.C. slowed down or consolidated, the study showed.
