Gilbert breaks ground on new connection to Heritage District

Gilbert broke ground Wednesday on a new western gateway into the Heritage District that town officials say will do more than provide another way for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists to reach downtown.

The Vaughn Avenue Connector will extend Vaughn Avenue west to Neely Street, creating another access point into the Heritage District while helping position its western edge for future commercial investment and redevelopment.

The voter-approved transportation bond project also represents the first of several planned infrastructure improvements in the Heritage District intended to improve circulation, accommodate future traffic and support continued economic development.
