Gilbert adopts short-term rental fees

Gilbert Town Council adopted short-term rental fees for the town, a second step in the town regulating the hotel alternatives that sometimes are a point of contention for neighbors.

Council voted unanimously Aug. 15 to charge a $100 licensing fee to short-term rental property owners. The town also will charge an annual renewal fee of $100. The fees take effect Sept. 15.

The fee is anticipated to cover the cost of a software vendor to manage the town’s short-term rental data collection, said Ashley Namor, a business compliance project manager for the town.
