As a 27-year resident of Sun City West, former governing board member in 1999-2001, chair of the Golf Committee for two years and chair of the Property Committee for one year, I would like to offer my two cents on the recall movement.
In general, and in short, I think the recall is ill-advised and I hope it fails.
I believe we have a wonderful community, one of the very best retirement communities in the nation and receive excellent value for our dues.

Our volunteer boards in recent years have been very good and management in recent years has also been very good.
The Nov. 8, 2023, issue of the Sun City West Independent has several excellent opinion letters by longtime residents, and I would encourage all members to read them. I was particularly impressed with Gary Bosak’s analysis. Gary is very knowledgeable about most things Sun City West and I trust his opinion. I was also impressed with Jack Fischer’s analysis and letter in this edition.
The Recall Committee has raised a couple of important issues, and I agree that these issues deserve answers:
• Does Sun City operate a similar, much larger community for substantially less money? I have requested an answer of this question from Board President Tim Hurley and GM Bill Schwind.
• Does Sun City West need to continue to build a larger reserve fund, considering insurance, risk and our ability to self-fund possible needs?
• Does our investment strategy make sense, considering the above?
• Did GM Schwind apply for PPP funds against the advice of our auditing firm? Did the board approve this application? If true, what was the rationale?
I am awaiting answers.
In closing, I would like to thank Todd Patty and his crew for their excellent management of our golf courses, especially the huge renovations at Grandview. I have not played Sun City courses in many years, but my recall is that our courses are superior, though more maintenance intensive.
