Arizona should get rid of grades for schools

System of student testing and evaluating schools needs restart because it isn’t producing intended effects

OPINION — Since 2011, the state, pursuant to legislation, has given a grade to individual public schools on the familiar A-F spectrum.

The idea was to provide parents and taxpayers with an understandable assessment of the quality of education provided by individual schools.

From the beginning, it was a colossal failure. These school grades haven’t ever provided useful information about school quality, absolutely or relatively.
