Get ready! It is that time of year again to clean out your cabinets, old cardboard boxes, laden filled file cabinets and garages for the annual Sun City Posse Drug-Take-Back and Shred-a-Thon drive that will be conducted this month.
Your family members, friends and neighbors, all volunteers with the Sun City Posse, will be at our headquarters at 10861 Sunland Drive for our annual shred-a-thon, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and our Drug-Take-Back drive, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“This is an important opportunity to see first hand the work that our volunteers do for this community, “Sarah Davis, Posse commander, said. “We have Posse personnel who will readily take your unused and outdated medicines and those boxes of papers to be shredded and dispose of them in a safe and secure environment.”
Through the Posse’s Drug-Take-Back Initiative, the commander added, residents have dropped off thousands of bottles of unused and out-of-date drugs over the years. Remember, this is the safe way to dispose of them. Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and throwing unused drugs in the trash or flushing them down the drain is both dangerous and harmful to our environment. So, join with us in being good stewards of our earth and drop off those tablets and pills. But remember, we do not take liquid medications.
Also, this year, our Drug-Take-Back program is in cooperation with the Maricopa Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s national Drug-Take-Back Initiative. The program also is sponsored by the Arizona Drug Enforcement Agency.
The collected medicines are sealed and then incinerated.
In addition to our Drug-Take-Back program, Posse volunteers also will be on hand to collect all of those hundreds of pieces of paper we seem to accumulate, including old bank statements and checks, tax forms that date back more than seven years and other useless items that seem to spill over in boxes and onto our floors. So, again this year, we will have two trucks on hand to shred those documents in a safe and secure environment.
So, load up your trunk and junk-the-junk by bringing all those useless documents to Posse headquarters.
