George Delp passed away on February 6, 2026, at the age of 96 at The Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, WI. George was born in Mattoon, IL on March 20, 1929. He was also a resident of Racine, WI for over 20 years, Sun City West, AZ for over 30 years and Villa Hills, KY for 5 years. He was married for 61 years to his beloved wife, Carolyn, who passed away in October of 2009. After Carolyn’s death, he was united in a commitment ceremony with Mildred Ackley, with whom he spent the past 15 years, traveling on many new adventures. Millie passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 100.
He was the proud father of two children, David (Sally) Delp of Brookfield, WI and Deborah (Keith) Krueger of Mt. Pleasant, WI and grandfather to Bill Delp of Oak Creek, WI, Adam (Jessica) Krueger of Milwaukee, WI and Julie Krueger (Matt Schneider) of Wilmington, NC. He was preceded in death by Carolyn, Mildred, his parents (Carl and Daisy), his brother (Robert) and a host of beloved in-laws and extended family members.
He was also a military veteran, having served stateside for 3 ½ years in the US Navy during the Korean War.
George was fundamentally defined by the extraordinary 34-year career he had at SC Johnson Wax. He started with the company as a Salesman in 1956 and retired at the end of 1989 as the Executive Vice President of the US Consumer Products business. Along the way he held a myriad of executive positions including Vice President of US Consumer Sales, Vice President and Regional Director of the Pacific and Far East and President of SC Johnson Canada. The friends and colleagues he made over his career meant the world to him. His people skills were legendary, and he left an indelible mark on the lives of many.
When he retired at age 60, he and Carolyn spent most of their time in Sun City West, AZ. He golfed regularly at Briarwood CC, where he made a whole new group of friends. He and Carolyn came back to Wisconsin in the summers to see their children and grandchildren. During that time, he played golf regularly at Racine CC, where he had been a member for many years.
During his time in Arizona, he served on Briarwood’s board for several years and was deeply involved with his church, the Lord of Life Lutheran Church. George was a devout Lutheran and a man who rarely missed a Sunday service. When Carolyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2003, he fought the battle of that disease with her and cared for her until the end of her life.
George truly lived a wonderful life. He grew up with very little during the Great Depression on a small farm in south central Illinois. He took a job with a company which he thought would last a year, that became a career that defined his life. He had a family and friends who loved him. He got to see the world and was fortunate to have a second opportunity for love and companionship later in life with Millie. He always said he had a ‘great ride’, and he did not die having regrets. He will be sorely missed by his family and by those whose lives he touched.
The family will have a private interment service at West Lawn Cemetery in Racine, WI in the May timeframe, where he will be laid to rest with Carolyn. Any memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. Anyone desiring more information, or just wanting to share stories, can contact his son David at cdavid.delp@gmail.com.
