George Edward Shaffer

SUN CITY WEST - George Edward Shaffer of Sun City West, Ariz., passed away on Aug. 4, 2016. He was born Feb. 8, 1935 in Danville, IL, the son of Otis and Helen (Moultin) Shaffer. He married Marianne Robbins on Aug. 19, 1955 in Danville, IL. George was a graduate of Danville High School, Eastern Illinois University where he obtained his bachelor's degree and University of Illinois where he received his Doctorate in Education. He was the principal of East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL until his retirement in 1992. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marianne Shaffer; his parents; and his sister, Barbara McCracken. George is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Ann Blankenhorn; son, Allen Keith Shaffer; grandchildren, Chris Blankenhorn and Stephanie Well and her husband Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Addison and Grady Well. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, AZ.
