George B. ChiappiniSun City resident George B. Chiappini died March 24, 2008.Mr. Chiappini was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Belleplain, N.J. After serving in World War II, he owned and operated a propane gas company in southern New Jersey for 15 years before moving his young family to Globe, Ariz., fulfilling his and wife Bert's dream of living in the west. His love of the outdoors led the family to Prescott where he owned the Sportsman's Shop. After joining Southern Union Gas Co., a promotion landed him in Farmington, N.M. He returned to his much-loved Arizona in 1981, filling his retirement years with woodworking, carving, writing poetry, traveling, dancing and spending time with his family.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Bert; his parents, Edward and Rose Chiappini; and eight siblings. He is survived by his children, Robyn, Clay and wife Donna, and Fern and husband Simon; his grandchildren, Kyle, Kacy, Alex, Travis, Jaime and Ryan; a sister, Rose and her husband Salvatore Centola; his loving companion and dance partner of 16 years, Patricia O'Toole; and many nieces and nephews.Services were March 28. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be given in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
