George Albert Monroe, 81George Albert Monroe, 81, of Apache Junction, passed away April 15, 2007.He was born March 23, 1926, in Lansing, Mich., to George Albert Monroe Sr. and Beulah Butters. He was the middle child; he had an older sister Mildred and a younger brother Arnold.Mr. Monroe graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1944. In November of that same year he was drafted into the infantry and trained as a military policeman.In 1947 he joined the Lansing Police Force where after 31 years he retired as a detective sergeant. He worked numerous homicide investigations and spent several years working with the schools in the juvenile division. After retiring, the city of Lainsburg hired Mr. Monroe as the police chief. He ran the department for five years, after which he went to work for a variety of private companies moving prisoners around the country from facility to facility.In 1947 he married Doris Place. They had two daughters – Carol and Georgette. Their daughters have three children each, and those children have 12 children. The Monroes had been married 49 years and one month when Doris had a massive heart attack and died.Mr. Monroe has been in Arizona for the past 10 years.On June 5, 1999 Mr. Monroe married Evelyn Atwater.Mr. Monroe leaves his wife of eight years, Evelyn; his daughters and their husbands, Carol and Ned Saalfrank of Indiana and Georgette and Aaron Bishop of Michigan; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepsons; one stepdaughter; and five step-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 29 at Palmas Del Sol East, 3400 S. Ironwood Drive in Apache Junction.Apache Junction Mortuary handled the arrangements.
