SUN CITY WEST - Gene Edwin Loverink, born Sept. 29, 1938, in Pella, Iowa, passed away on Dec. 25, 2016, in Sun City West. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Alice Loverink; and his first wife, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; and her children, Steve (Becky) Jensen, of Pinehurst, N.C. and Lynda (Keith) Webb, of Sun City West; and four grandsons, Gene's children, David (Patti) Loverink, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Elizabeth (Dave) Gibbs, of Omaha, Neb.; as well as three grandsons; and one sister, Marilyn Borger, of Denver, Colo. He also leaves behinds many nieces, nephews and good friends. His career was comprised of six years as a math teacher in Grinnell, Iowa, 28 years in the banking industry in Des Moines, Iowa and finally, he retired from Jacobson Company in Des Moines, Iowa, after eight years of service. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered and missed by many. He was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, and a celebration of his life will be held there on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, and Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church Missions in Sun City West.
