PEORIA - Gene Afdahl passed away peacefully Jan. 26, 2017 at home. Gene was born Norman Gene Afdahl, on March 17, 1938, in Danville, Ill. His family moved to Redfield, S.D., where he grew up. He joined the National Guard at an early age and loved military life. He went into the Air Force serving 10 years and the Army for 13 more years. After his retirement from the Army, he operated a ranch near Great Falls, Mont. He leaves behind his wife, Eileen; two sons and two daughters; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also, two step-daughters; one step-son; eight step-grandchildren; plus four step-great-grandchildren. Gene moved to Sun City in 1999 where he met and married Eileen Monson. They enjoyed traveling and playing golf, but their favorite pastime was ballroom dancing, they were both active in the Saturday Night Dance Club as officers. They also enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle with friends. His memorial service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N.
