Grand Canyon University scholarship program marks 100th graduate

Jellsy Gonzalez recently embarked on her first year of teaching third grade at the same Maryvale elementary school she attended.

Despite the school year beginning mid-pandemic and all the restrictions and disruptions that come with that, Gonzalez is happy to go to work every day with a classroom full of students excited to learn.

She graduated from Grand Canyon University earlier this year, thanks to a full-tuition scholarship from the university’s Students Inspiring Students program. As a student at North High School, Gonzalez took part in tutoring sessions at GCU’s Learning Lounge, where college students help K-12 students in the neighborhood surrounding its campus get a leg up for the future.
