Gas prices still at record highs despite drop in Valley

Despite the continued volatility in the crude oil market, gas prices dropped 9 cents this week in the Valley according to AAA Arizona.

The current average for a gallon of gas in the Valley is $4.64 a gallon, down from $4.73 a gallon last week. The price still reflects a 99 cents a gallon increase from a year ago at this time.

“The national average has stayed above $4 per gallon since late July and is currently more than a dollar higher than it was this time last year,” said David Caltabiano, spokesperson for AAA Mountain West Group in a release late Thursday. “The fall months typically bring lower gas prices, but volatility in the oil market has led to seasonal record highs this year.”
