Gas prices are continuing to climb in the Valley, as prices rose 39 cents in the past week to average $4.72 a gallon, and state prices climbed another 37 cents to average $4.43 a gallon, according to AAA Arizona on Thursday.

Arizona has the sixth-highest gas prices in the nation, with California having the highest prices in the nation at $5.61 a gallon.

Last week’s announcement by the White House it would release 172 million barrels of oil from its strategic reserves over four months has had no immediate relief on the oil market as the price of a barrel of crude continues to climb, up to over $96 a barrel at the end of Wednesday.
