FUSD students will spend more time distance learning

Move prompted by a lack of teachers and substitutes

After much discussion, the Florence Unified School District agreed that students will be spending one to two more weeks in remote learning mode.

At a special FUSD governing board meeting Tuesday, Jan. 26, Superintendent Chris Knutsen requested that board members approve an extension of distance learning for one week for K-8 students with a return to in-person instruction on Feb. 8, and two weeks for 9-12 students with a return to in-person instruction on Feb. 16.

On Monday, Jan. 11, Mr. Knutsen went to the board and asked that it approve his recommendation that students at all 12 district schools return to remote learning from Thursday, Jan. 14 through Friday, Jan. 29.
