The Arizona state budget for this fiscal year includes more funds for K-12 education, which required the Florence Unified School District to revise its 2022-23 fiscal year budget.
In the Tuesday, July 12, FUSD Governing Board meeting, the board members were presented the revised budget by FUSD Chief Finance and Operations Officer Beverly Myers.
“This year it's highly unusual, but what has happened is that the state budget, when it was approved by the Legislature this year, they included authorization for a school district to adopt a FY 23 budget that is higher than its proposed FY 23 budget and identify the differences in the budget adoption hearing,” Myers said. “In other words, basically what's happened in the past whenever we've done the proposed budget in June there's no changes that are made to that proposed budget between the time that it's approved, and we adopt. However, because of that change with the Legislature they allowed us to increase the budget.”
