Funeral homes overwhelmed

COVID not only factor

Sun Cities funeral directors are working hard to keep up with the need for their services, but they are finding ways to cope.

Business at funeral homes is up significantly in Sun City and Sun City West. The staff at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center, 13738 W. Camino del Sol, Sun City West usually handle up to 60 cases in December. In January 2020 the chapel handled about 60 cases, and through Jan. 15 this year it handled 45, she added.

Cases at the Dignity network of funeral homes were up about 40%, according to Dan Salter, general manager of Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary and Cremation Center, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City. He added families served at the Sun City facility were up 25%.
