Fry’s at Asante plans move forward in Surprise

Council will vote on final plat at Tuesday meeting

The countdown to the opening of a long-awaited grocery store north of the intersection of 163rd and Grand avenues likely will start at the beginning of June.

At its June 1 meeting, the Surprise City Council will hear about and vote on the final plat for Fry’s Asante Retail Center, an associated gas station and a drive-thru for the Fry’s pharmacy.

The Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission approved the Fry’s Asante vehicle fueling station, drive­-thru facility, and overall site plan for the retail center with a 5-1 vote during its May 20 meeting. Commissioner Matthew Keating was the lone vote against the permit, and he cited the likely delay in building a traffic signal at the intersection of 163rd Avenue and Pat Tillman Boulevard as his primary concern
