From trash to comfort, Sun City group turns plastic bags into beds

Every plastic bag that passes through Jody Swank’s hands gets a second life.

Each Monday and Tuesday, a group of women files into Sun City Christian Church, 9745 W. Palmeras Drive, to create sleeping mats for homeless people in the area.

This project first started when Swank saw a blurb on Nextdoor about a Florida group doing the same thing. She tried doing it herself, but it took a long time. So, she put her own post looking for help on Nextdoor and had her first volunteer within 10 minutes.
