FROM THE EDITOR: Send us your story ideas

By Matt Loeschman

The Daily News-Sun, as our loyal readers know, has a more broad range of news coverage than Independent Newsmedia’s weekly papers based in the West Valley — the Sun City Independent, Sun City West Independent, Surprise Today and Peoria Today — and the monthly Glendale Today.

While those publications are deeply rooted in community news, our paper gives readers a look at the bigger picture. While they may delve into the issues very specific to their respective communities, we try to run articles on the DNS front that appeal to a wider audience in multiple communities. Examples of such articles include health topics, finances, education, state and local politics, employment and more.

will occasionally run a story that may be more specific to a certain community — for example, IKEA deciding not to build in Glendale. But that story has broad appeal as shoppers from across the West Valley would have been drawn to that store.

As a reminder, the Independent Newsmedia mission statement reads: Our mission is to provide the information and understanding citizens need to make intelligent decisions about public issues. In doing so, we strive to report the news with honesty, accuracy, fairness, objectivity, fearlessness and compassion.

Therefore, our news reporting is vital to the success of our newspaper and you will find at least one of our staff-written news articles on the front page of this paper each day.

Other sections unique to the Daily News-Sun compared to our other papers include first responders, national news, world news, the state page, photos of the day and much more. I am very proud of this opinions page that includes local and national commentaries, letters to the editor and daily Valley Voices. Our daily sports coverage has Associated Press items but also occasional in-house writing from myself, Richard Smith and Mark Carlisle.

And although we cater to a broader audience, I still want to hear your story ideas. Do you have an idea that might make a good front-page story for the Daily News-Sun?

Email me at mloeschman@newszap.com. I have already received a couple of story idea submissions this week, so we are already off to a good start.
