The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Scottsdale Police, and Midas Auto Repair are bringing a free VIN etching event to the residents of Maricopa County.
Theft of catalytic converters is skyrocketing in cities across the Valley, according to a press release. In Phoenix alone, thefts went from 67 in 2019 to more than 4,700 in 2021.
By providing free etching — placing a permanent identifying number on a vehicle’s catalytic converter — residents are empowered to protect their personal property while also providing a strong deterrent to those who intend to commit crimes.
The free etching event will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Midas Auto Repair, 2428 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.
