‘What was lost is found:’ stolen cross located years later

The Anglican Church of the Atonement holds weekly services under a new cross that symbolizes faith and forgiveness.

On the morning of Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen cross from the Anglican Church of the Atonement in Fountain Hills.

For nearly seven years, the case remained unsolved — until last month, when Father John LesCallett received an unexpected phone call from a church in Branson, Mo.

“The pastor told me that one of his parishioners told him in confession that he had stolen the cross,” LesCallett said.
