Apart from important meetings that were held during the Convention, the outgoing Commandant of the Arizona Department of Arizona Marine Corps League Joe Uribe reminded attendees that the theme of the convention was to honor Vietnam veterans on the 50th anniversary of the end of that conflict.
He thanked those veterans who had laid the groundwork for Americans to show their appreciation and honor those warriors who returned from service in Afghanistan and Iraq—something that was not bestowed upon veterans returning to America from service in Vietnam.
New officers were elected for the Arizona Department of the Marine Corps League including Antonio Espino, Commandant; Pat Connell, Sr. Vice Commandant; Roger Rodriguez, Jr. Vice Commandant; and Ryan Smith, Judge Advocate.
Espino will lead the Department for the next two years which will include the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps on November 10, 2025.
Marine Corps League’s National Senior Vice Commandant Russ Miller provided an inspirational presentation, according to Fountain Hills Marine Corps League Detachment Adjutant Chris Brant.
The National Senior Vice challenged all those present to continue the fight to feverishly support the goals of the Marine Corps League.
The Marine Corps League is the only congressionally chartered United States Marine Corps-related veterans’ organization in the nation. Its congressional charter was approved by the 75th U.S. Congress and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Aug. 4, 1937. The organization credits Major General John A. Lejeune, the 13th Marine Corps Commandant, as one of its founding members.
The Marine Corps League is open to any person associated with a veteran or a supporter interested in becoming an active member of this worthwhile national organization.
