Firehouse Subs foundation funds washer to clean fire district breathing gear

Gloves, boots and self-contained breathing apparatus tanks and equipment used by Superstition Fire and Medical District employees fighting fires will soon be decontaminated with a washer donated by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Inc.

The fire district covers Apache Junction, Gold Canyon and unincorporated Pinal County. It provides fire suppression, fire prevention, wildland protection, advanced life support, rescue, extrication and medical transportation services.

The SFMD board of directors on Jan. 18 voted unanimously in a consent agenda with other items to approve the purchase of a $34,233.40 Solo Rescue SCBA decon washer from LN Curtis and Sons. It includes a heavy-duty basket with a holder for two single or double SCBAs, a holder for two large air cylinders, a gear holder for gloves and boots, and other items. The cost includes $1,500 for installation and training, according to the quotation from LN Curtis and Sons.
