While the foster care system in Arizona has struggled in recent months, a local Mesa nonprofit is more dedicated than ever in fulfilling its mission.
That mission involves developing a transition home for those aging out of the system, just as the system of foster homes has begun shrinking.
The Arizona Department of Child Safety decided not to renew 16 group homes in May, leaving potentially 200 kids needing new homes. Kim Vehon, CEO of Mesa nonprofit Foster Arizona and a mother of children both biologically and as a foster mom, described the type of effect this decision has on foster children.
