Former Valley gambler offers caution as sports betting launches in state

Bright lights and betting action are now as close as the nearest smartphone for Valley residents, and for some that could spell trouble.

Betting on live and fantasy sports became legal Thursday in the Grand Canyon State. Betting operations now offer potential customers free initial bets and have been advertising extensively in the state for business.

Residents can now place bets from the comfort of their couch simply by tapping a few icons on their smartphone and funding their account.
