Former Tempe Mayor Harry Mitchell dies, tributes pour in

Harry Mitchell was elected to the Tempe City Council in 1970 and became mayor eight years later, a seat he had for nearly two decades when he retired. He was also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Arizona's District 5 and the Arizona Senate for District 17 and 27.

Former Tempe Mayor Harry Mitchell has died.

The 86-year-old former Arizona congressman’s family announced his passing Wednesday on social media.

“We are heartbroken to share that our dad, Harry Mitchell, has passed away. While we are grieving, we are filled with immense gratitude for the immeasurable joy our Dad brought into this world. He taught us how to live fully, love fiercely and serve faithfully.
